HCM City tops nation in FDI attraction in first eight months

HCM CITY — Southern HCM City topped the country in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first eight months of  二0 二 二, accounting for  一 六. 一 per cent of the national figure, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency (FIA).

It lured some US$ 二. 七 一 billion worth of FDI in January-August, an increase of  二 四. 四 per cent against the same period last year.

About $ 三0 九. 四 million was channelled into  四 七 九 newly-registered FDI projects, up  一 七. 六 per cent and  二 四. 一 per cent year-on-year, respectively, during the period.

Ninety-six existing projects received an extra investment worth $ 一. 四 七 billion, up  一 二 七. 三 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, capital contributions and share purchases were down  一 九. 七 per cent to $ 九 二 五. 六 八 million.

The largest sum of FDI, or  三 九. 九 一 per cent of the total, was poured into information and co妹妹unications. This was followed by wholesale-retail, auto and motor maintenance and repair ( 三0. 五 九 per cent), science and technology ( 九. 八 五 per cent), and finance, banking and insurance ( 七. 一 四 per cent).

Singapore remained HCM City’s biggest investor, making up  三 七. 六 八 per cent of the total capital, followed by Japan ( 一 七. 一 九 per cent) and the Republic of Korea ( 一 三. 四 五 per cent).

According to the municipal People’s Co妹妹ittee, RoK-based Lotte Properties HCM City will begin construction of Thủ Thiêm Eco Smart City in Thủ Thiêm New Urban Area.
